How To Bypass ‘file is locked’ Error When Editing Document Metadata

SharePoint
Keeping the metadata of your documents on SharePoint up to date is a great way to keep projects organised. It can be really frustrating when you are trying to edit this data, but are unable to, due to the file being currently locked for shared use. This can happen when someone else has the document open or SharePoint thinks you still have the document open by mistake after you have closed it.

Here are some steps to try and bypass this and keep your metadata up to date.
